The Extraction Meta: Why Rankings Matter

Marathon's extraction format creates a meta that is fundamentally different from traditional PvP shooters. Weapon rankings must account for risk-adjusted value — a weapon that wins 60% of 1v1 fights but is expensive to replace may be worse than a cheaper weapon that wins 50% but costs a fraction to bring into a match.

Our ranking engine uses a 6-factor composite score weighted for extraction gameplay: TTK (35%), DPS (20%), range versatility (15%), mod synergy potential (15%), mobility impact (10%), and reload efficiency (5%). This weighting ensures weapons are ranked by their realistic extraction value, not just theoretical damage output.

Season Balance & Tier Shifts

Bungie releases balance patches throughout each Season that can dramatically shift the meta. A 5% damage nerf to the BR Volley Rifle could drop its TTK below the threshold where it loses head-to-head fights against the Pulse Rifle. Our ranking engine recalculates all scores within 48 hours of every patch.
